Amy Nip

A day after a Legislative Council paper revealed as much as HK$54 billion could be needed to host the 2023 Asian Games, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing said in a radio programme yesterday that the initial estimate of HK$6 billion would be quite enough to fund the event. Any outstanding amount could be met by public fund-raising, he said. The central government would support the city if it decided to bid for the Games and some events could take place in Shenzhen and Macau if Hong Kong was short of venues, he added.
