Lawmaker James To Kun-sun proposed a Legislative Council motion to appoint a committee to inquire into Octopus Card's collection and transfer of customers' personal data to third parties for financial gains. The company reaped HK$44 million from selling the data of 1.97 million people. The panel would also examine the role of the MTR Corporation, the firm's biggest shareholder. The results would show if any law had to be improved, To said in the motion.
