Jim Chim blows off steam with video rant that reaches a million-plus via the Net

Looks like local celebrity Jim Chim Sui-man is channelling his inner Kanye West. On Christmas Eve, the actor, writer and comedian released a music video for his song I Don't Wanna Say [Cantonese expletive] - a spoof of Andy Lau Tak-wah's I Don't Wanna Say Goodbye. He promoted it on his Weibo (China's version of Twitter) account, and in just four days it had more than a million hits.

In the video, Chim expresses his dissatisfaction with certain aspects of Hong Kong life, most notably the rising cost of living, while wearing a top hat and black suit. It has spread like wildfire and is getting positive responses on the internet, thanks to Weibo.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is the now infamous collaborative rap video with MC Jin and our very own Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen. That video is also spreading - albeit with negative reactions - on Weibo.

Looks like 2011 could see celebrities fully integrate social media into their promotions and rants. To see Chim's video, search pipgrouphk on YouTube.
