If you missed out on the world's most expensive bottle of whisky (the 64-year-old Macallan in a Lalique Cire Perdue decanter sold recently at Sotheby's for a record US$460,000) - then don't despair, there's something else to tempt your palate. For US$1.5 million, Robb Report magazine, in conjunction with the distillery, is offering the ultimate single malt experience: a journey to the Macallan estate in Scotland to select eight rare single-malt whiskies, barrelled during the last eight decades. The journey starts with a first-class flight to Paris and a two-night stay in the Presidential Suite at the Four Seasons George V.
Check in, then board your chauffeured Bentley to meet with the crystal artisans at Lalique who will create the custom decanters to house the whiskies. A private jet and helicopter will fly you to the Macallan estate for a two-day consultation to select the whiskies and the decanters will be delivered in a bespoke cabinet from royal furniture-maker Viscount David Linley. Accommodation is the 300-year-old Easter Elchies House, which is surrounded by woods and rivers. Salmon fishing, anyone?
Single malt distillery Glenfiddich and luxury glassmaker Steuben have also joined forces to create an exclusive hand-crafted limited-edition whisky decanter (below). Priced at US$690, the bespoke decanter is a collaboration between Steuben's master craftsmen and Glenfiddich master distiller Brian Kinsman, representing more than a century's worth of artisanship, tradition and expertise.
Meanwhile, Christian Lacroix and Chivas Regal have extended their partnership with the unveiling the Chivas 18-year-old by Christian Lacroix. It follows the 12-year-old magnum released by the pair in 2009. Limited to 3,000 bottles worldwide, it's priced at HK$5,408, and 30 pieces are available in Hong Kong from voi_la! and City's Super starting from February 1.
