Hitachi LifeStudio Mobile Plus

If you find you take and receive photos, videos, music and other files, but never remember where you've stored them on your computer, Hitachi's LifeStudio Mobile Plus external hard disk drive could be just what you need.

Available in 250GB, 320GB and 500GB models, the device comes with software that automatically scans your computer for media files and then organises them according to media type and date. This will help you to easily view all your content in one location.

The software also displays its database using a '3D wall' interface, which lets you visually browse through your library instead of just looking at the file names.

The software goes one step further, and includes a built-in connection to Hitachi's online storage service.

With the LifeStudio software, you can choose to upload your files on the internet, which not only creates a backup of your files, but also make them much easier to share since you simply send a link to your friends.

The Mobile Plus system also incorporates a 4GB USB key, which can be docked with the main drive. This gives you a way to share media files on other computers, as well as load files from other computers directly into the LifeStudio drive.

The USB key also supports working documents, so any changes made to the version on the USB key is automatically synchronised with the file on the LifeStudio.

The Hitachi LifeStudio Mobile Plus costs from HK$785.

Pros: LifeStudio software organises all your media files, syncs data online, detachable USB key

Cons: limited capacity of 500GB, which isn't a lot if you're dealing with music and video files
