Reputation and diversity major factors in decision

The diversity of the student body is one of the factors that drew Martin Holme to the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA programme.

'The students have different backgrounds in terms of culture, where they come from, education and work experience,' says Holme, who has been senior director and head of sales and marketing, Maersk Line, South China, for about 18 months and with the company for 15 years.

When he first decided on an EMBA, he saw the Kellogg-HKUST programme's reputation stood out. 'One of the programme's attractions is it requires a high level of education and work experience. I am here to learn and build a network of top quality friends,' Holme says.

He is proud of playing a role in the changes the container shipping industry is undergoing. 'South China is the largest cargo loading area, which gives me the opportunity to be involved firsthand with the changes in the industry and to contribute to that,' says Holme, whose first degree is a BBA in finance from Copenhagen Business School.

Before Holme joined the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, he did military service in his native Denmark.

From opening the Maersk Line office in Uganda to working in human resources at head office in Copenhagen, Holme has amassed a wealth of experience in various positions.

He hopes the EMBA can prepare him to take on executive positions so he can oversee the different departments of the company. 'I feel very fortunate to work for a company that values personal development and opportunities to grow,' he says.
