Of the common drawbacks between trade shows and networking events, business-card management is among the most tedious, particularly when it comes to transferring the information to your personal database.
For those of us who don't have a personal secretary or data-entry clerk, Camcard - the business card-reading app from IntSig Information - resolves the issue.
Not only does the software 'scan' - or, technically, 'photograph' - business cards, it also includes a built-in optical character recognition (OCR) function to extract information, which can be merged with your phone's existing contacts, forwarded to others or even utilised for an in-app LinkedIn search.
The concept of card reading is not new, but as far as image rendering and on-board capabilities go, Camcard is second to none.
The same, however, can't be said for the OCR function, which often requires corrective human input. Other features include image cropping, an antishake function and a virtual cardholder which skims through thumbnails of saved entries.
