British rider Neil Callan managed to keep his tally of race wins ahead of his suspensions, but not by much, after collecting one of each. Prior to racing, stewards concluded an adjourned hearing from Wednesday night's January Cup, in which Callan was found to be the guilty party in a scramble in the early stages of the race. The jockey was banned for two days, with the suspension deferred until after next Sunday's meeting and neatly dovetailing with the conclusion of Callan's contract on February 1 - he will be eligible to ride again on February 10. Two hours later, Callan managed to post Chantilly an upset 40-1 winner in the fourth event, to score his second Hong Kong success. Also in trouble were Derek Leung Ka-chun for his winning ride on Glittering (two days) and Jeff Lloyd (two days) for careless riding on Finn Maccool in race six.
