Model Kathy helps Tumi bag a share of women's market

Tumi has US President Barack Obama, Tom Cruise and David Beckham sporting its gear, but the luggage brand has set its sights on the ladies with the latest collection.

Brand reps invited local model Kathy Chow Man-kei to Harlan's at The One on Thursday, to lend her looks at the launch of Voyageur, a soft-case travel series with colourful jungle, floral and urban inspired prints.

Though Chow has yet to own her own Tumi travel bag, she and others of the jet-set might well be sold on the lightness of the pieces.

'I don't like over-built and heavy baggage,' Chow says. 'When I go places, my strategy is to go empty and come back loaded from shopping sprees.'

While the model has yet to decide whether to head for the snow in Europe or sunshine and beach in Thailand, this week, she's already got her Lunar New Year strategy all figured out.

'If I'm in Hong Kong for the holidays, I'd rather stay at home with close family and make turnip cake.

'My mum is the diligent one with the endless rounds of visits to friends and relatives. The best part is all the lai see she collects on my behalf,' Chow said.
