Laughter lines to come thick, fast and spontaneously at comedy festival

The Hong Kong International Improv Festival, billed as the first ever all improv festival in Asia, is a little under a month away, and the guys are getting ready. Comedians from Seoul, Beijing and other regions will soon make their way to the city and provide Hong Kong with some much-needed laughter.

Jami Gong, founder of TakeOut Comedy Club, has been spearheading the English improv and stand-up comedy scene in the city, and it was only natural that international acts were the next step. 'We've had Mandarin-speaking comedians perform here for a while and they're very well received,' he said.

Improv comedy, made popular by the hit British television show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, requires spontaneous, on-the-fly thinking, and each group is going to have its hands full trying to one-up the others.

The festival takes place from March 3 to 5 at the TakeOut Comedy Club in SoHo. Tickets are HK$150 per show or HK$350 for all three nights. Visit www.hkimprovfestival.com for details.
