Women Artists 211

Sin Sin Annex Feb 11-Mar 8

Sin Sin Annex's latest show marks the growing influence of women in the local arts scene. Featuring works by Suzy Cheung, Hazel Chiu, Margaret Chu, Alice Kok, Lam Laam Jaffa, Monti Lai, Helen Lau, Lau Gukzik, Linda Liao and Stephanie Sin - Women Artists 211 also celebrates Chinese Valentine's Day on February 17.

'The festival takes place on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese calendar. Traditionally, it was a time when women were free to go out in public and enjoy their social life together under the full moon,' says curator Sin Sin-man.

'When women are pulled together, such as in this festival, an interesting chemistry is created. They become so sensitive and powerful. This is reflected by the juxtaposition of these women artists' works together.'

Margaret Chu's acrylic painting, Impression of Love (left), blends with the theme. 'I've picked a rather sad one about how blurred the impression of a former lover can become,' she says.

Other works include Jaffa Lam's Swing, made using recycled umbrella fabric, and Alice Kok's video installation, Bodhi, which explores reflection of light.
