Rainbow Warrior farewell visit

Ferry Pier 2, Central, Sat, Sun, 12pm-4pm

The Rainbow Warrior II may not be a household name up there with the likes of Spider-Man or Batman, and the Warrior certainly possesses no super powers. But it is a hero which has done more to defend the earth than any comic book creation.

A boat owned by Greenpeace, the Rainbow Warrior II (right) has travelled the world to inform people of the destruction of the earth's environment, and is now on a farewell voyage before the conservation organisation upgrades its efforts.

Greenpeace is already on its second boat and will in autumn launch the Rainbow Warrior III. The current vessel has been in service for 21 years and has helped inform about oil spills, caught up with tankers shipping illegally logged timber and provided aid to tsunami victims. The ship managed to make it to retirement unlike its predecessor, the original Rainbow Warrior, which was sunk by French intelligence services in New Zealand in order to stop Greenpeace interfering with French nuclear tests.

Free tours aboard the ship will feature stories concerning the ship's adventures, its equipment and other activities Greenpeace undertakes.
