Going green to fill the ozone hole

AS the temperature rises and we all get a sweltering reminder of the damage we've caused to the ozone layer, some, like the Island Shangri-La's manager Symon Bridle, have been out and about in the great outdoors paying penance.

Bridle is pictured above planting trees at Lantau - while sons Andrew and James, in time honoured tradition, cower with embarrassment in the background at Dad playing it up for the camera! The eco-friendly exercise formed part of the hotel's ''Think Green'' campaign, with beach cleaning and Green lectures among the future events lined up to appease the sun gods.

Incidentally, talking of the hot and humid weather, it must have been bugging a driver of an MTR train yesterday morning something awful.

Passengers were entertained to the sound of him blowing his nose over the train's public address system.

In fact, had there been a composer of avant-garde music on board at the time he would surely have found inspiration for a new symphony.
