Google's translation app sports all the wizardry of the search giant's Web-based language converter and a whole lot more.

The mobile release offers translation in 50 languages, 23 of which support audio playback, allowing users to have their queries translated in a sexy foreign voice. For languages not supported, the app's magnify button, which enlarges results to full screen, is a more-than-adequate replacement.

Where the app really shines is its notably accurate voice-to-text feature. This allows inputs to be made via your device's audio receiver, which can be activated with a small button near the search bar.

The system interprets spoken words and phrases in up to 15 languages, including English and Putonghua. Translations for these can, of course, be recited verbally as well.

Also included is the ability to save individual words and phrases by highlighting a star icon.

All in all, a simple yet elegant app that's attractive, functional and easy to use.
