No more sermons from the bank
The moment that Stuart Gulliver takes over as HSBC's chief executive, the bank drops its annual results press conference. As of next Monday, HSBC goes the way of most other international banks and its annual results announcements will take the form of a webcast. HSBC says this is not a move to reduce transparency or to reduce media access but rather aims to provide greater access to those in places such as the US where the bank has not held a results press conference.
We shall, however, miss HSBC's annual 'sermon on the mount', from former chairman Stephen Green, or as we should now describe him, Baron Green of Hurstpierpoint.
Macau bus driver dilemma
Macau's new public bus company Reolian is having a hard time finding enough drivers. The company is due to start operations in August but after two recruitment drives the firm has only received 198 applications, some 200 short of the 400 it is looking for to drive its new fleet of 245 state-of-the-art buses.
The company blames Macau's labour laws, according to macaubusiness.com, which say that bus drivers must be Macanese residents.
