Chung Gye Chon

Making a name in a district so vibrant in its culinary offerings is no easy task. But despite the challenge - or maybe because of it - Chung Gye Chon is proving to be a worthy contender among the office crowd and well-heeled evening dwellers alike, only a few months after opening.

Though the cosy Korean eatery is only open for dinner, it nevertheless remains a spot worth knowing, particularly if you're looking to entertain clients or unwind after a string of long meetings.

Traditionally styled with a modern finish, the main dining room evokes a soothing and unpretentious vibe, offering an escape from the busy neighbourhood.

But if it's hubbub you're after, Knutsford Terrace, the popular bar street, is just a hair's breadth away, as is the newly opened mega-mall, The One.

The menu at Chung Gye Chon is heavily centred on the classics, from kim chi - reputedly some of the freshest in town - to bibimbap, consisting of rice, meat and vegetables cooked in a stone pot. The steaks are a carnivore's delight - thick, juicy and very affordable.

But the seafood and spring onion pancakes take the prize, each separately cooked to mouth-watering perfection - soft yet just ever so crispy on the outside.
