Women's participation in village elections is very low, Hong Kong Human Rights Monitor found, and warned it could indicate indirect discrimination against women. The group found 2.23 per cent of candidates in this year's elections were women. In indigenous inhabitant representative elections, the number was 0.79 per cent. Among 1,358 elected village representatives, only 30 are women.
