Mr. Taco Truck

Mr. Taco Truck Shop E, 22 Finnie Street Quarry Bay, Tel 2590 6911

Grub: Mexican food including tortillas, tacos and burritos.

Vibe: This truck doesn't actually have wheels but the counter is built to resemble the classic trucks that migrated across the Mexican border and can now be found all over the US. There are a few tables so you can eat there or take away. Mariachi music fills the air and there is a Mexican flag and a couple of sombreros on the wall for added authenticity.

Who to bring: Anyone who loves good, simple Mexican food.

What's hot: There are a number of places around town where you can get Mexican dishes but for authenticity Mr. Taco Truck wins hands down. In Mexico, this is fast food, it's tasty, it's inexpensive and very often it is mobile.

Tacos and quesadillas are both small snacks. Tacos are a soft flour tortilla with a variety of toppings. A standard taco includes cilantro, onions and salsa plus a choice of meat - chicken, steak, roast pork or spicy pork. Veggie tacos are also available.

A quesadilla is a tortilla filled with cheese cooked until it melts. Quite often other ingredients are added and, like the tacos, you can have a choice of meat.

A quesadilla sincronizada is two tortillas filled with ham, cheese, lettuce and sour cream and cooked on both sides until the cheese melts.

Burritos are much larger. Traditionally they consist of a tortilla wrapped around refried beans, rice and meat. There are also vegetarian and fish choices and a breakfast burrito which is filled with eggs, ham, potato and salsa.

A wide variety of fillings can be rolled into the tortilla to make enchiladas. The popular Swiss enchiladas available here include chicken, mozzarella cheese sour cream and salsa.

Of course the menu wouldn't be complete without nachos. These can be served simply with jalapenos and cheddar cheese.

There do offer a couple of interesting drinks. Horchata is a cinnamon-based drink which can be served hot or cold and is very tasty.

What's not: There are no desserts on the menu.

Cost: HK$50-HK$100 per person depending on how hungry you are.
