Guidelines issued to crew for Saudi Arabia

Instructions on how to behave and dress in Saudi Arabia were issued to female cabin crew before Cathay Pacific began Riyadh 'layovers', including the wearing of all-covering abayas in and outside the staff hotel.

A three-page document was distributed detailing ways to avoid breaching the kingdom's strict cultural and religious requirements and 40 abayas were provide for female crew at check-in.

The guidelines also tell crew to avoid packing 'revealing' clothes and warns that penalties for breaching local customs and rules can be severe. It advises on how to avoid upsetting passengers from Saudi Arabia in the air - such as by touching someone.
