Manchester United versus Arsenal is always a big draw, but tonight's FA Cup quarter-final is a blockbuster. The winners will see a clear path to Wembley and the trophy, although Manchester City might have something to say about that, and there is the opportunity to strike a significant psychological blow in the wider battle for honours.
The two clubs sit first and second in the Premier League and this match has the potential to make or break their seasons.
Not that either team is in great form. United, after going unbeaten for so long, have lost three of their last five in the league, while Arsenal's League Cup defeat by Birmingham was followed by a limp, goalless draw at home to Sunderland in their latest game against Premier League opposition and then came Tuesday's Champions League exit against Barcelona.
Defeats for the big clubs, being so rare, tend to be blown out of proportion and that certainly seems to be the case following United's latest loss at Liverpool. The reality is that Liverpool are back as a top-six side and United's earlier defeat at Chelsea, was against an even better team.
It is unreasonable to read too much into United being defeated on the road against high-quality sides, especially because United's form at Old Trafford is hard to fault.
Their only dropped points in 14 home league games came when West Brom pegged them back to 2-2 and, while that result does not read well on paper now, it is worth remembering that in those golden days of autumn the Baggies had just gone one better by winning 3-2 at Arsenal.
