Sweet Sanette shows same old elegance for her new stable
Two Sha Tin trainers were quick to test out their recent acquisitions at the barrier trials yesterday morning, with Tony Millard claiming heat three with speedy mare Sweet Sanette and Manfred Man Ka-leung winning the heat six with Fortune Spirit.
Sweet Sanette was transferred from Gary Ng Ting-keung after her run in the Group One Chairman's Sprint Prize on February 5 and, with former partner Greg Cheyne back in the saddle, she burst out of the early morning mist to claim her 1,000m heat in 58.14 seconds.
Fortune Spirit has landed in Man's yard after starting his career with Paul O'Sullivan and, with Douglas Whyte in the irons, the six-year-old was given a good test run over 1,050m on the all-weather track. Fortune Spirit enjoyed a good tempo set by Lucky Leon - most famous for giving the 'Liverpool kiss' to Ben So Tik-hung behind the barriers last Saturday - before reeling that leader in to stop the clock at 61.04 seconds.
The Millard-trained Lucky Leon was passed ready to return to the races by stewards, and his strong jump and solid cruising speed were again on display as he ambled down to the post untouched by Piere Strydom.
The news was not so good for connections of the Almond Lee-trained Public Figure, who confirmed his poor form of last start in the same heat, with a mediocre performance that stewards deemed unsatisfactory.
