Pupils injured by falling tiles

Four primary school pupils were injured in when tiles fell off a wall in a bathroom and landed on them. The Kwun Tong Government Primary School children, aged 11 to 14, suffered cuts to their heads, hands, legs and shoulders and were treated at the United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong.

Smoke halts Peak-bound bus

Smoke poured from a bus carrying 35 passengers up to The Peak yesterday afternoon. The driver and all passengers got out safely and no one was injured. The passengers called police, and the smoke had stopped when firefighters arrived soon after. The incident caused heavy traffic congestion, with a queue stretching 3.3 kilometres at one time.

Airline fuel surcharges to increase

Fuel surcharges for Cathay Pacific, All Nippon Airways and Singapore Airlines would be increased from April 1 to 30, the Civil Aviation Department said. The new maximum fuel surcharges will be HK$194 for short-haul flights and HK$884 for long-haul flights, an increase of 18 per cent.

Walkway plans published

Details on the construction of a 550-metre elevated walkway linking the Kowloon Bay Industrial Area and Telford Gardens to the MTR Kowloon Bay Station have been published in the Government Gazette.
