A peek inside Pixar

Woody, Buzz Lightyear and many other Disney animated characters are coming to Hong Kong.

More than 400 items, including maquettes - draft models of the characters - and early short films from Pixar Animation Studios will be on display at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin.

The 'Pixar: 25 Years of Animation' exhibition will run from March 28 to July 11.

Exhibition project manager Kimberly Donovan said about 300 of the items had never been taken out of the studio. Most of them had not even been seen by Pixar staff.

The Toy Story zoetrope is one of the many must-see items. Eighteen little statues of the cowgirl Jessie spin under a flashing light to make it seem as if she is doing a rope trick.

There will also be a big room with three projectors and a gigantic screen where films and other multimedia products are played.

Hongkongers will get a sneak peek at storyboards, drawings and maquettes of the upcoming film Cars 2. Maquettes are models that are made to see what characters in drawings look like in 3-D.

Jeremy Hui Siu-mui, the museum's curator, expects the exhibition to attract 180,000 visitors.

Hong Kong is the second stop of this exhibition, which was held earlier in the United States. The next stops will be Shanghai and Milan.
