All tressed to impress at a party for hair-loss treatment

There was much ado about the loss of one's locks at the first MSD Propecia Hair Show at the Crowne Plaza Hotel last Thursday evening.

Avoiding too much direct talk about its patented hair-loss treatment, pharmaceutical company MSD chose a soft-sell approach.

The show celebrated the joys of having a full head of luscious hair with a show of the latest trends in styles.

Well-tressed heads of men and women models hit the runway sporting gelled-up coxcombs and crimped-up bouffants.

The evening took a comedic turn when celebrity 'hair ambassador' Kevin Cheng Ka-wing and stylist Sam Han of Snips International took the stage to lend their views on managing your male or female mane.

'As an actor in period TV dramas, I often have to shave my head and put on heavy wigs, so I do pay attention to trends in hair-loss prevention,' said Cheng (pictured), best known for his role as Alan in the 2006 TVB drama Under the Canopy of Love.

'But some of the home remedies I hear about are pretty ridiculous. I mean, should you really be rubbing brandy or ginger into your scalp?'

Han cautioned that some folk remedies might even lead to greater hair loss, which is a big no-no, according to the professionals.

'However styling trends may evolve, I can tell you that the comb-over will never be in style. You don't ever want to be that guy holding down the strands over his bald patch every time the wind blows,' he said.
