Mosse was an easy victor in the Jockey Challenge with his massive haul of 40 points, but Cruz had to be content in sharing the training honours with Me Tsui Yu-sak, who bagged a treble of his own.

Cheetah Boy, Horse Galore and Mighty Sun all saluted to lift Tsui to 25 winners for the season thus far, and the trainer could only thank his luck for the hot-streak last night.

'Three of my very honest horses won and they deserved to win, but it was lucky that they all arrived tonight,' Tsui said.

'Cheetah Boy is a class four horse, I don't have high hopes for him because he has proven he is quite limited, but he has been racing well and will keep winning whenever he gets back to around this level.

'Horse Galore has been long due to win, he has just been placing, placing, placing, so it was great he was able to get to the line first tonight.

'Mighty Sun loves the dirt and really fought hard to win tonight, but if you put him on the turf he instantly turns into a class four animal.'

Mighty Sun ran down King Al Akbar to score by a neck in the Class 1 feature Choi Hung Handicap (1,650m), with the brave Penglai Xianxi a further neck away.

Douglas Whyte managed to stretch his premiership lead over Brett Prebble with a single victory aboard Winning Scholar for trainer Alex Wong Yu-on, but both men were quick to thank a third party for the horse's performance.

'This horse has problems with three out of his four legs, so the vet has done a fantastic job in getting him to the races, let alone getting him to win,' Whyte said. 'He won with a bit of purpose, so it wouldn't surprise me if he could win in Class three next time, provided Alex can keep him up and running.

'If he remains sound and races again in three weeks or so, he will relax a lot better than he did tonight - I think it was just that he was so fresh after a long break .'

Fellow South African Piere Strydom also enjoyed a single success, but the victory on the Sean Woods-trained Jolly Good will be all the more sweet for the recent arrival, who has struggled for rides and hadn't won in Hong Kong since J J The Jetplane scored a historic victory in the Hong Kong Sprint last December.

'I thought he had a good chance tonight, and the 1,800 metres was in our favour because he took a very, very long time to get going,' Strydom said. 'He's not a big horse, and he's quite narrow, but I think there's another win in him for sure, and Sean has said he will continue to give me a few rides, so I'm pleased to get the ball rolling.

'It's been a tough start, I've ridden a number of placings, but you don't always keep those rides here, and trying to break into the ranks is tough.'
