In his 85-game international career for England, Lawrence Dallaglio played at flanker and No 8 so he didn't get much chance to kick the ball.

But that didn't stop him putting the verbal boot in at the Deutsche Bank Valley 7s Long Lunch this week.

Among his light-hearted jibes and gags were digs at some of his England contemporaries, particularly Will Carling.

'One time Will Carling got stepped on in a scrum,' Dallaglio said. 'The ref asked who did it and someone said, 'It could have been any one of 29 of us'. 'Make that 30,' piped up the ref.'

A crowd of around 450 corporates gathered in business suits in the marquees across the road from the stadium for the traditional precursor to the weekend. And they were not immune from the former England captain's light-hearted barbs.

'We were sent to a nutritionist by Clive Woodward, and it looks like a few of you here could do with one,' he quipped. MC John Bentley and Dallaglio were costume-coordinated, dressed in electric blue full-length fur jackets to fit the Siberian winter theme of the event.

'I feel like I am something from Lapland. Or maybe that's the name of a club in Wan Chai,' Dallaglio cracked in reference to his faux fur attire.

Of his impressive career, Dallaglio said: 'I wasn't in it for the money. I was in it for the purple tracksuit.'
