HK expected to post 6.3pc growth in first quarter
Hong Kong's economy is expected to grow 6.3 per cent in the first quarter, compared with the same period last year, according to the Apec Studies Programme of the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy at the University of Hong Kong. Real gross domestic product, which accounts for changes in prices, would slow to a 5.9 expansion in the second quarter, it said.
Change at the top
Shun Chi-ming, 47, the Observatory's assistant director, will replace Dr Lee Boon-ying as the director on April 14. Peter Cheung Kam-fai, deputy director of intellectual property, will become director on April 12, succeeding Stephen Selby.
Distilled water probe
The Centre for Health Protection and police are investigating after an Indonesian woman, 24, felt unwell after drinking a bottle of distilled water. A laboratory test at Princess Margaret Hospital showed the presence of sodium hydroxide.
Boy held over assault on mother
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his mother, 44, at their flat in To Kwa Wan.
Tsang goes on leave
Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen will be away from Hong Kong on leave from today until April 4. Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen will stand in for him.
