AS Governor Chris Patten toasted the good health of new South African President Nelson Mandela, he echoed the thoughts of everyone present at the Aberdeen Marina Club when he said that not so long ago no one would have thought such an event was possible.

The celebration was hosted by Consul-General Michael Farr and his wife Lettie, and attended by the whole of the consular corps.

Members of the local South African business community were on hand to celebrate the moving occasion.

Fashion all wrapped up HIGH fashion came to Pacific Place when Hermes launched an exhibition which commemorates the history of the Hermes scarf.

The cocktail party which kicked off the exhibition, held as part of Le French May, was attended by many of this town's set who never leave home without it - the Hermes scarf, that is.
