Military sites talks extended
SINO-BRITISH talks on the handover of Hong Kong's military sites enter their sixth day today as the two sides try to wrap up the seven-year-tussle in the current session.
The talks, which have no deadline, were extended on Friday after defence experts from the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group concluded the scheduled three-day session without a deal.
Both the Chinese team leader Chen Zuo'er and British counterpart Alan Paul were tight-lipped after emerging from the four-hour talks last night.
Mr Chen said: ''We have another afternoon of serious and in-depth discussion.'' In Beijing, General Xu Huizhi, vice-chief of staff of the People's Liberation Army dismissed suggestions that the territory would be used as the army's regional command in southern China.
