Limited Rolls choice leaves pair off colour

SEEING that engagingly theatrical duo Brenda and Kai-bong Chau emerge from their pink Rolls-Royce, Keeping Posted knew something was amiss. The usually exuberant Kai-bong looked flustered.

Indeed. As Kai-bong explained, they usually arrive at ''grand affairs'' (and the affair we were all heading for was certainly very grand) in their gold Roller.

But as one chauffeur had taken the day off, they were reduced to their other chauffeur, who usually drives the pink number - used only for ''glamorous parties'' - but is not allowed to drive the gold one.

(The Chaus also have a beige Rolls-Royce - used for ''casual functions'' - which both chauffeurs are allowed to drive. But so as not to complicate matters, let's just leave that in the garage for the moment.) Anyway, as Kai-bong was explaining, which car they use also depends on what he and Brenda are wearing.

Fortunately, on this occasion although Kai-bong was in black, Brenda was in chic pink, so it wasn't a complete social disaster after all.

Readers will now be able to appreciate why Keeping Posted always travels to social functions on the MTR.
