THOUSANDS of New Territories village households will switch off their lights for several minutes on Wednesday in ''mourning'' if a bill ending exclusive land inheritance rights along the male line is passed in the Legislative Council.

About 1,000 rural leaders are expected to swamp the area outside the Legco chamber in protest.

The amendments aim to reverse the century-old inheritance law that prohibits indigenous women inheriting ancestral properties.
