Dodgy deliveries

THE Post Office's services appear to be deteriorating.

On a recent Saturday morning, I had to post something that had to reach Central on Monday morning. After reading that the next pick-up time at the box in Morrison Road would be 2 pm, I dropped the item in the box. I waited and waited, and there was no collection.

The item was not picked up until Monday and then delivered on Tuesday. After this experience, the next time I thought I would be safe by posting an article at the General Post Office. I did and it still arrived on Tuesday.

Letters posted at the GPO on a Sunday are delivered in Tokyo on a Tuesday, the same time it takes a local letter to reach Kowloon.

And the postage is also a farce because it costs $1 for a local letter yet one to Tokyo is just $1.90.

The Postmaster General is generating revenue by starting other services such as Speedpost, but is doing so at the expense of a once dependable mail service.
