Bill to rule on sea trade

The Hong Kong Government is introducing a Bill to give effect to the Haig-Visby Rules on sea cargo, says a spokesman.

The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, which was gazetted on Saturday, is intended to replace British legislation.

''This is part of the programme of localisation of legislation to provide Hong Kong with a framework of shipping legislation which will continue uninterrupted beyond 1997,'' the spokesman said.
