BURGLARS stole a safe containing about $5.3 million in cash and valuables from a three-storey house in Happy Valley last night.

Yip Wai-moon, 42, the tenant of the home in Chung Fung Terrace, Mount Butler Road, had kept the safe in a wardrobe in a second-floor bedroom.

She said she had left the house at 3.30 pm and when she returned at about 9.30 pm found it ransacked and the safe, measuring 70 cm by 80 cm by 70 cm, missing.

The safe contained about $1.25 million in cash, gold and diamond ornaments worth $3 million, 16 watches valued at $930,000 and 50 taels of gold worth $190,000.
