Parking fine waiver plea
HONG Kong has always been an exciting place for my husband and me and many of our friends who are Hong Kong residents.
We have never hesitated in recommending it as the place to visit for our overseas friends. As Americans we look forward to celebrating America's Independence Day with our friends at the American Club, in Tai Tam. This year was no exception, with celebrations earmarked for July 3. We headed out to the club and had a marvellous time only to find out at the end of the event that we (among others) had received a HK$320 fine for parking alongside several other cars on the pavement outside the American Club building.
On such a special occasion, it was impossible for everybody to park in the American Club's car park that day, resulting in many parking outside the compound.
Is it too much to expect the Traffic Department to make an exception on this special day, so that those attending can have a marvellous time without having to pay a hefty parking fine? It would be much appreciated if the Government could waive parking penalties in future for special events which cater to large numbers, where there is insufficient parking space, as long as there is no threat to traffic or pedestrians.
