Butlers serve as latest line in birthday gifts
A WELL-TO-DO resident of the territory is in for a wonderful surprise on her birthday next January, courtesy of an equally wealthy admirer.
That was the news conveyed to Keeping Posted from London by Ivor Spencer, who runs an internationally acclaimed school for impeccably mannered butlers.
In a twist to the what-do-you-give-the-person-who-has-everything line, Spencer recently started a unique service whereby for US$100,000 (about HK$772,000) you could give the services of a highly trained butler to someone for a year.
It appears that having heard the new service reported on the radio last week, a Taiwanese tycoon with, Spencer told us, ''extensive business holdings in Hong Kong'' has become one of the first to take up the offer.
He contacted Spencer and requested that the necessary arrangements be made to deliver this novel birthday gift (heaven knows how Spencer is going to wrap it!) on a specified date in January to the recipient's address.
We tried to get Spencer to reveal a few more details, like a name, perhaps? But having trained his butlers never to speak more than is absolutely necessary to nosey hacks, Spencer wasn't going to be caught blabbering to the press.
Meanwhile, Keeping Posted's inquiries to unravel the identities of the couple concerned are continuing.
