THE results of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, have finally come out.
The average performance of this year's form five students was poorer than those of last year.
Is this a reflection of the declining quality of both secondary school students and teachers, because the best ones have emigrated? Congratulations to those who got good results, but we must take pity on those who do not do well, even though some of them may have worked very hard, but were just unlucky.
The most unfortunate are those who worked hard and got good results, but who were not able to study at full-time, subsidised schools because of their age.
They have no choice but to study at private schools, or attend evening classes, which are considered to be ''inferior''. They are sacrificed, because society has the wrong values and does not provide enough form six places.
A certain degree of age discrimination is employed.
Studying is for the young, and certainly also should be for the young at heart! CHIU MAN YIP Happy Valley
