FRENCH car-maker Renault has named Jebsen and Co as its exclusive distributor and importer for Hong Kong, Macau and China.

Philippe Graciet, Renault's vice-president for international affairs, said Jebsen had been chosen after fierce competition because of its orientation towards customer service, technically sophisticated service stations and its extensive training programmes for technicians.

Fredrick Dubee, general manager for Jebsen motors, said: 'In the last five years Jebsen has invested $300 million into the marketing and service of automobiles, and has appointed a full time training manager.' In its bid to expand in the Asia-Pacific region, Renault has appointed a more extensive customer after-sales programme, implemented by Jebsen motors.

Renault's strategy for penetrating the Chinese market is to firstly provide after-sales service in China and secondly put in place a geographically based marketing programme.

Renault's main presence in Asia is in Taiwan.

where 7,000 units were sold last year.
