WAN CHAI detectives are investigating a savage attack in which a businessman lost his finger.

Restaurant shareholder Cheng Hop-fai, 50, was attacked by two men armed with knives as he got out of his Mercedes-Benz in Jaffe Road just before 9.30 am yesterday.

One of his fingers was chopped off as he tried to defend himself from the attackers.

The severed finger was picked up and Mr Cheng's chauffeur rushed him to hospital.

The finger was later sewn back on at Queen Mary Hospital.

Mr Cheng also suffered knife wounds to his knee.

He was ambushed as he arrived at his office building.

Mr Cheng's 23-year-old daughter was also in the car at the time of the attack.
