Thailand is star performer

ASIAN emerging markets have produced some heady returns for investors in the past few years, according to Hong Kong Investment Funds Association statistics.

Its monthly performance survey of funds showed investors who put cash in the Jardine Fleming India Trust two years ago would be looking at a return of 196.4 per cent. Those who bought units in the fund one year ago would have a 55 per cent return.

In Pakistan, the CL Pakistan Growth Fund rose 66.1 per cent in the 12 months to the end of July.

The star performer was Thailand, where the Jardine Fleming Thailand trust surged ahead by 92 per cent in the year to the end of July, and 221.9 per cent over two years. Close behind was Fidelity's Thai fund, which rose 83.2 per cent over one year and 196.8 per cent over two years.
