Duo in final Games warmup

ONLY two of Hong Kong's Asian Games athletes will have their final opportunity to warm up locally before the Hiroshima Games in tonight's Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association organised Evening Athletics Meeting which will be held at the Wan Chai Sports Ground.

High jumper Chang Yu-ho will be out to make amends for a disappointing outing in the Singapore Open Championships held three weeks ago when he managed to clear only 2.04 metres.

And in the women's 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres, top middle distance runner Maggie Chan Man-yee will also try shake off her disappointing performances in the weekend's Asian Junior Athletics Championships held in Jakarta.

Chan finished fifth in the 1,500 metres in a slow time of four minutes and 37.85 seconds with the race won by an athlete from China in 4:30.57. Her 3,000 metres time of 10:20 was far behind the winning time of 9:33.

Only junior sprinter Wan Kin-yee made any real impression in the Asian Junior event in Jakarta by getting into semi-finals of both women's 100 metres and 200 metres events where she finished fifth in the 100 metres to equal the Hong Kong junior record with a time of 12.06 seconds.

Meanwhile, top distance running pair of Lee Kar-lun and Winnie Ng are in Oslo, Norway to compete in tomorrow's IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.
