Frothy fun at beer festival

BEER, beer, glorious beer. That was the frothy theme at the opening of Omni the Hong Kong's Oktoberfest, with German Consul-General Dr Wolfgang Goettelmann in attendance.

But before downing his first pint of the fin-est brew his country can offer, Dr Goettelmann first had to snip a super-long frankfurter to declare the revelry open.

On hand to add to the fun with accordions, tubas and even an alpine horn were lederhosen-clad members of the Notenhoblers band flown in for the event that goes on for the next fortnight.

Ballroom provides hospital boost THE multi-million dollar refurbished ballroom of the Conrad was christened not with a re-launch party but a charity event.

More than 500 people joined GM Dario Regazzoni as he hosted a gala night in aid of Canto-pop queen Anita Mui's True Heart Foundation.

Compered by comedian Eric Tsang, the star-studded night raised $5.5 million for Queen Mary Hospital, which included more than $1.5 million donated by the Conrad.
