Sophisticated style aims to make big impression

THE cultivated and finished look are evident in Issey Miyake's autumn and winter collection. He has come up with innovative designs and styles to suit feminine and sophisticated tastes.

'I have tried to go back to the basic shirt and start afresh,' Miyake said.

He has created a range of white cotton shirts of varying lengths worn over black jerseys and pleated skirts with floral prints of vibrant pink, orange or blue.

There is a choice of diagonally soft-pleated pyjama-like shirts and pants in pale beige, pale pink, brown and black, trimmed with white at the cuffs and collars for a casual and chic look.

An exciting flying-saucer tuxedo in cell-memory wool promises to be the rage this winter.

To attain permanent pleating of the sleeves or pant legs, the wool undergoes a special treatment with a coating of protein when heat is applied.

Keep the winter out with shrunken wool vests, jackets in ivory, green, wine and black, embroidered with wool yarn to form a shirred effect. They are effective when worn over shirts with shirred seams, and over stretch-leather pants.

For an alluring look, wear colourful micro-fibre taffeta tunic shirts and shirt dresses with laces and drawstrings trimmed with stiff taffeta sections.

Miyake has a range of micro-fibre taffeta pants with wide-bottom cuffs in unweighed, stiff taffeta, teamed with colourful fitted jackets in brushed stretched twill.

The evening wear has an artistic flavour typical of Miyake - a crushed look in an elegantly pleated velvet, shoulderless funnel-necked dress with crushed tops in gold and black and pale silver.
