Etiquette ignored

I THINK there are many unwritten social rules which we need to follow in our daily life. Even though we are not officially penalised when we violate these rules, we should still obey them in order to maintain public order.

I have lived in Hong Kong for several years and almost every time I take some form of public transportation, especially the MTR, many people ignore the social rules. For example, some people cut in line so that they can get into the MTR before others.

Also, many people rush into the train before passengers get off. Another example - five people usually take up the six-seater benches in the MTR, forcing others to stand. When I first came to Hong Kong, I usually asked people to move over a bit so that I could have a seat. Most of the time, there was no response. I don't bother to ask anymore.

These are only a few examples that I encounter in daily life. Many people in Hong Kong tend to ignore these rules of public etiquette. By making minor concessions towards each other, we can create a community with a good neighbourly spirit.
