Widow cleared in acid case
A 60-YEAR-OLD widow who claimed she was framed by her neighbour for a vicious acid attack was acquitted in the District Court yesterday.
Lam Tsui-yue was found not guilty by Deputy Judge H. C. Wong of throwing corrosive fluid over grandmother Cheung Wai-shun, 65.
Mrs Cheung told the court she saw smoke coming from her body after the acid was thrown into her face and onto her arm.
But Mrs Lam insisted it was Mrs Cheung who threw the acid.
She said she slammed the door in her neighbour's face just as Mrs Cheung was about to attack her. 'Do you think she threw the corrosive fluid on the door and it splashed back onto her?' the defendant asked the court.
The prosecution said police found a mug containing a hydrochloric acid solution in Mrs Lam's flat.
