J.LEAGUE outfit Iwata Jubilo lifted their flagging spirits when they beat Hong Kong First Division side South China 1-0 in yesterday's friendly at the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

Kudo Kiyokazu hit the winner five minutes from time after Mosahiro Suzuki's initial shot had come back off the crossbar.

Injury-hit Italian star Salvatore 'Toto' Schillaci played in the first half but was taken off for the second half as the Japanese side stamped their authority on the game.

The win came as a welcome boost to head coach Hans Ooft. 'We hope to see our top striker back as quickly as possible,' said Ooft referring to Schillaci, who has been dogged by a thigh injury.

Sing Tao yesterday signed former Oxford United centre-half Darren Jackson.

The 23-year-old played four seasons with Oxford before moving to Reading two years ago.

He becomes the Tigers' eighth foreign professional.
