Opportunity silently passes by stadium

HOW on earth did the beleaguered Hong Kong Stadium - desperate to put on anything that is decibelly possible just to hear the sound of the turnstiles creaking again - let this one slip through its grasp? For looking through a listing of Urban Council events, we noticed that Marcel Marceau, the eminent French mime artist, is performing tomorrow at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall.

We think Marceau - who someone once suggested would make the ideal resident artiste at the acoustically challenged stadium - would have fitted the bill at the So Kon Po edifice exceedingly well.

Besides, Marceau also strikes a politically correct tone: he always wears white gloves on stage.

Readers will, of course, be aware that this is an item much in favour at the stadium, what with Canto-pop fans being asked to wear white gloves to a concert there on Sunday and, of course, the boxing extravaganza that follows a week later.

Although as far as we know Bruno, Hide, Morrison et al haven't been asked to swap their thump-inducing leather gloves for white cotton ones.
