Building law approved
Beijing Municipal People's Congress has approved a law to regulate construction standards in a move to increase the quality of residential buildings.
The law will give consumers the right and the channels to complain, and will provide a period of guaranteed repair for defects caused by housing developers.
Although the city government has issued more than 30 regulations and provisions governing housing in recent years, poor-quality houses remain a target of public criticism, according to Xinhua (the New China News Agency).
The law goes into effect on January 1.
