MTR exits

I RECENTLY noticed a sign in the MTR which read 'emergency exits at the ends of train'.

Does this mean that the MTR trains have only two emergency exits at the ends of the train? If so, I find this very disturbing.

I wondered how in the world I would reach any emergency exit if I was in the middle of a crowded train. On the other hand if the train had a head-on-crash, would there be only one emergency exit left for the thousands of panicking passengers.

To make matters worse, as there are no clear indications as to which end of the train I am in, I could probably be nearer to the front end of the train and could be running . . . pushing . . . shoving in the opposite direction.
