Mainland yards win P&O work

P & O Tankships has ordered four double-hulled refined product tankers from Chinese yards.

P & O Tankships, in the process of replacing older vessels in its 16-ship fleet, ordered the 3,700 deadweight tonne (dwt) tankers from Shanghai-based Qui Xin Shipyard and Beijing-based China Shipbuilding Trading.

The vessels, designed to carry clean refined products including jet fuel and petrol, are to be delivered in 1996 and 1997. The prices of the vessels were not disclosed.

The company's existing short-haul vessels operate primarily in British and northern European waters.
